Back / Education Specialist
Compass Health Center is seeking an Education Specialist for our Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Programs in our Northbrook office.

We are seeking an experienced Education Specialist with a passion for delivering educational support and advocacy to children with a variety of mental health needs. If you are passionate about working with children and their families to communicate, develop and carry out appropriate treatment plans and compassionate care, you would be an ideal addition to our team.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Communicate with patients’ home schools
  • Coordinate assignments with patients’ home schools
  • Provide parents/guardians with educational updates
  • Complete educational assessments with patients to determine academic needs
  • Create academic plans with patients as needed
  • Assist patients with executive functioning skills as needed
  • Chart communication with parents, schools, and patients
  • Attend rounds daily
  • Participate in family sessions when appropriate to provide information about school progress
  • Provide insurance utilization team with educational updates
  • Meet with patients to prepare for school staffings
  • Coordinate and participate in school staffing and other school meetings when appropriate
  • Update the team about transition plan and school staffing
  • Participate in professional development activities
  • Work with schools and families to determine the best ways to support students’ needs at schools
  • Advocate for students to ensure success with the school transition
  • Collaborate closely with treatment teams

You would be the ideal candidate, if you:

  • Masters level degree (preferred) in the field of special education
  • Teaching Certification Strongly Preferred
  • Experience working with students ages 6-14 who have significant emotional disabilities
  • Extensive knowledge of school systems and special education processes, as well as parent, student, and school rights
  • Experience with classroom management
  • Experience with students and families in crisis
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to process complex situations and engage in real-time prioritization in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective communication skills to enable patient advocacy and develop strong partnerships with home school teams
  • Experience in, or willingness to be trained in TCI
