Ms. McDonough began her career as a teacher, where she taught second, fourth and fifth grades, before earning her M.Ed. with a specialization in Child Life in Hospitals from Mills College. During and after her graduate work, Ms. McDonough worked as a Child Life Specialist at UCSF Children’s Hospital. Through her education and work as a Child Life Specialist, Ms. McDonough has received specialized training to respond to the developmental, social, and emotional needs of hospitalized children and adolescents and their families, and she has expertise at mitigating the impact of medical trauma while preserving basic developmental pathways and family support systems in hospitals and medical community settings. Prior to beginning her teaching career, Ms. McDonough earned her B.A., with a double major in Psychology and Elementary Education, from the University of Notre Dame.
