Child Group Therapist
Dr. Aten received her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Aten has experience in a variety of settings, including private practice, therapeutic day schools, inpatient hospital programs, Title I Catholic schools, and a community mental health center. She has extensive experience conducting psychological assessments for children with school-based challenges. As a volunteer, Dr. Aten helps run monthly groups for trans* and gender non-conforming youth and their parents.
Dr. Aten incorporates a variety of therapeutic techniques in her clinical work, including strength-based cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and expressive arts interventions. Dr. Aten provides parents with psychoeducation on child development and temperament, as well as techniques for behavioral modification. She strives to work with children and families in a collaborative manner that helps them feel empowered to make positive changes in their lives.
