Adult Addiction Psychiatrist

Dr. Erica Ghignone grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida and was initially drawn to the field of mental health during her undergraduate years at McGill University, where she obtained her B.A. in Psychology.  She decided to pursue a career in medicine after completing a Masters in Medical Sciences at Boston University. Dr. Ghignone attended medical school at the University of South Florida and moved to Chicago to complete residency in adult psychiatry at Northwestern University. There, she developed a strong interest in working with patients who were coping with concurrent psychiatric and substance use disorders. This led her to complete fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry, also at Northwestern University.

Dr. Ghignone has expertise in both substance and process addictions, having worked closely with a broad range of patients – including women, professionals, LGBTQ patients and victims of trauma. She most recently worked at Howard Brown Health Center where she was instrumental in establishing a Suboxone program to address the growing need for treatment of opioid use disorders in the Chicagoland area.

As a physician, Dr. Ghignone values taking a holistic approach to patients including psychotherapy and medication management. She promotes a non-judgmental, affirming environment to promote healing and recovery for all.
